Nokia Lumia 920 camera fix PR1.1 update coming soon

The Nokia Lumia 920 smartphone has caused quite a stir since it became official back in September and was subsequently released last month. One of the new wave of handsets running the Windows Phone 8 operating system and with a distinctive style in a choice of vivid colors the Lumia 920 has initially sold well but one area of concern was the camera with some describing photos taken as lacking in detail and fuzzy. Now we have news of a PR1.1 update on the way that should fix this problem.

One of the key features of the Nokia Lumia 920 is its camera set up as it has an 8-megapixel rear camera with optimal image stabilization, autofocus, LED flash and Carl Zeiss optics as well as PureView Technology, geo-tagging and touch focus. It has video capture capability of 1080p along with video stabilization and also packs a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Thus, the Lumia 920 has a great appeal to those who often use their smartphone for photography.

There was some disappointment then, as reported by Engadget, that some Lumia 920 units had poor camera function with blurred edges and fuzziness along with other issues such as inconsistent white balance and exposure. Engadget reports that although Nokia did not acknowledge any such issues the manufacturer did imply that the camera software was still being fine-tuned and now the PR1.1 update looks as though it addresses the problem with fuzziness.

It’s reported that Nokia Care US recently tweeted that an update for the Lumia 920 was coming this month and this has now been confirmed as PR1.1. Now some photos have come to light showing the same images taken using the current PR1.0 firmware and then again with the PR1.1 update. These images show that the fuzziness problem has been resolved and apparently the update also brings browser improvement, added stability and other tweaks such as the ability to decline calls using a text message and the introduction of SMS drafts.

Engadget does however, still note some white balance issues. It appears then that this PR1.1 update for the Nokia Lumia 920 will be available very shortly, and Nokia Care US says it will announce the update news on Twitter so do keep looking out for it.
