iPad mini vs Nexus 7 2 damage, durability results

#

Something that concerns many consumers when purchasing a new tablet or smartphone is the resilience of the device against everyday usage. That’s where drop tests and dunk tests can come in useful as they can show just how sturdy a device is. Today we have a video to show readers of iPad mini vs. Nexus 7 2 damage and durability results from this kind of testing.

In fact the video not only looks at the Google Nexus 7 2 (Nexus 7 II) tablet and iPad mini but also shows how the new Nexus 7 compares with the original Nexus 7 with regard to durability. The YouTube Square Trade video shows drop, slide and dunk tests on the three 7-inch tablets starting with the drop test.

As you can see from the video that we’ve embedded below this story, the Nexus 7 2 (made by Asus) came out best from a five-foot corner drop test, although it still sustained some damage to the corner and some light screen scratches. It fared better though than the original Nexus 7 that sustained more damage but the iPad mini seemed to come off the worst, as the screen was broken at the bottom with some cracks, and the casing was also damaged.

A slide test was then performed and the textured back panels of the Nexus 7’s really helped out here. When a short push was made on a smooth table both of these tablets stopped in time to avoid sliding off the surface. However, it didn’t take much at all to see the iPad mini slide right off the table.

Finally, the video shows a water drop test and again the Nexus 7 2 came out tops for durability. After a short dousing in water the original Nexus 7 completely reset itself (not a good sign), while the iPad mini lost audio. However, audio on the Nexus 7 2 still worked after the dunking.

Why not check out the video below to see the results of this durability testing for yourself. The Nexus 7 2 came out of the testing very well though, so if durability is a factor that concerns you when buying a new device this is something you’ll want to take into account.
