It seems the reason the Nokia Ovi service is so popular because of the ease and quickness to set up an account via your mobile phone with no need to access a computer.

Nokia statistic shows that of the million, 650,000 users have created their account direct from their mobile phone. Ovi Mail is a free service which has been targeted toward developing countries where computer access is less prevalent.
