It looks like Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 has a new software update, this time round it is the OS 4.7.1.61, have you installed the new firmware update yet?

CrackBerry speculated that the Verizon Tour 9630 would be getting the new official update from Verizon tonight and they did say that it may not be the 5.0 you was all looking for, well they was right there is a brand new update and it definitely is NOT 5.0.

The update can be downloaded right here, Verizon’s website says that this new update is more suited towards personal email users, Personal email refers to any POP3/IMAP webmail service that can be accessed via a web browser. Examples of personal email accounts include GMAIL, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, etc, for more information on this please visit here, just choose either ‘Personal Email’ or ‘Corporate Email’.

Please do let us know in the comments area below if you have installed the new official Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 OS 4.7.1.61 update, and let us know what you think of it.

  1. i just downloaded this not sure what the difference is supposed to be. everything looks and feels exactly the same..most likely a waste of time. bummer still waiting for the 5.0 and dont feel like putting the leaked version on my phone.

I installed this Thursday night. The messeage read it would take 2 hours but it acutally took 55 minutes. The result! I have no clue. I cannot see any phsycial difference or performance. It still performs great. Love this phone. I will be waiting for the 5.0 upgrade.

I installed it.. The whole process took about an hour with the download and the actual installations. I have not scene any difference at all. I hope this is just an upgrade to get ready for 5.0 when they release it! That is what I am waiting for!

I downloaded it 3 days ago and haven’t noticed much of an improvement with the track ball. What IS DIFFERENT IS THE MISSED CALL LOG YOU HAVE TO GET THROUGH AFTER A MISSED CALL TO GET TO THE HOME SCREEN. This is not good. It downright sucks and if you ask me it’s overkill and i cannot turn the fuction off…someone please help!

I downloaded it and my battery life now stinks! I too had the problem like kelly where it would not turn back on; the fix was to downgrade back to the old version then do the upgrade again. RIM could not help me with that at all, had to figure out on my own. Now I do not get more than 4 hours from my battery where before I got almost 40hrs.

Well I’m with Tim. I installed this about a week or so ago with desktop manager not ota. In any event the only difference I’ve noticed is my battery life is terrible. I will likely rollback to the previous version until OS finally com$es for the Tour. Battery life is my top deal breaker and I went from a day and a half or so to about 6 hours.

I received the update notice a couple of weeks ago and am still looking for a reason WHY I need to download whatever it is. The message says only that it “includes enhancements”. What? C’mon Blackberry you can share it with me, can’t you? And then it says “charges may apply” if I download it over the wireless network. What is this? Why the meaningless message? What charges (for a 55 minute download?)? Based on what I’m seeing from others, from “no [apparent] difference” to degraded battery life, to loss of headphone and blue tooth utility, why do I even want or need this “update”?

My results are like Tim and Nate. If someone could direct me where to download the older OS I would MUCH appreciate it. I am using Verizon Wireless if that makes a difference.

downloaded this upgrade it erased everything in my BB to include the PIN number. VZW tech declared there was no way to fix this device as it was completely unable to connect to a computer. VZW issued me a totally new device which I restored with desktop manager. will wait cautiously before fooling with 5.0 or any new upgrades. this is device #3 in two months, #1 trackball failed.

i “tried” to download this update and it froze my phone and then crashed it. Needless to say I no longer have any of my contacts and all of my settings went to the originals….which is very frustrating. The tech told me to try updating again and once my contacts go in to save the backup file….tried to update this about 3 times where each time it finished and completed but nothing happened and i still had the old version. Will definitely not be trying any more updates for a while.

I’m pleased with the new updates. I see some aren’t noticing any differences but I’ve noticed several. I’m looking forward to trying PTT, my camera no longer has that delay…my battery life is about the same considering my usage but my ringer profiles finally work and I like the instant messaging look of SMS and the other minor user interface changes. I guess it depends on how you used your crackberry before if you’ll notice any changes but so far I’m pleased.

  12. Tim says:

DID the update phone now locks up battery life is about the same, but if i receive a SMS that has a tune or saying then no matter what i do after that that tune or saying will play no matter what i open wether it be a Mail or a SMS or anything else. and you can not make it stop untill the timer runs out on the tune, the only way to stop it is a hard reboot. I find it frustrating. I do like the new look of the SMS though. phone locks up from time to time now and several things i can not get to in a straight fashion i must find alternative ways to get to things now. I am not happy at all with this reminds me of windows Vista all screwed up.

  13. Jme says:

OMG someone please help me. The new software now threads my texts as a conversation, but also includes missed calls in the chat thread (anything from that person). However, if I miss a call…and that is the last entry in the chat thread…I can no longer sms that person. I can't delete the auto-populated missed call info either. It just says that the call back number is *86 (voicemail) and doesn't allow me to compose an sms. Any suggestions?

    1. Jaye says:

I have this same problem and it is driving me nuts. I have a business to run here, and I CANNOT afford to miss connections like this–texting is a way of business now-a-days. This is very frustrating.
I, too, would like help for fixing this problem.
