Opera Mobile 10 and Opera Mini 5: The Differences

So what is the difference between Opera Mobile 10 and Opera Mini 5? Well firstly unless you have a Windows Mobile or Symbian device, Opera Mobile 10 won’t work so you’ll have to use Opera Mini 5 according to Opera.

So what do Opera Mobile 10 and Opera Mini 5 have in common, well they both are based on the same core tech, which is the Opera Presto browser engine, and both use the same cross-platform interface.

The difference comes in just where the browser is located; meaning Opera Mini 5 is located on a server while Opera Mobile 10 is located on the mobile phone which basically means when the user enters a web address in Opera Mobile 10 the web page is fetched right from the web server; when using Opera Mini 5 the request hits the Opera Mini server and downloads the page from the internet and transcodes the page before forwarding to the client.

Thus the advantage is that Opera Mini can be smaller and operate on much more basic mobile phones than Opera Mobile 10. Opera Mobile will render web pages like a desktop but Opera Mini will deliver a slight difference but faster.
