Symbian 3 and 4 and Maemo 6 phones on their way

Nokia is going to leap over Symbian 2 and going straight to Symbian 3 in Q3 of this year and follow with Symbian 4 later in the year says the general manager of Nokia Taiwan, Michael Hsu, reports an article over on digitimes.

Apparently Symbian 4 is based on the Qt cross platform app development framework developed by Trolltech and will allow developers to develop software for both the Symbian and Maemo platforms simultaneously.

According to sources that are apparently familiar with Nokia’s roadmap, by 2011 Symbian S60 smartphones will account for 55 percent of Nokia’s total shipments while Symbian S40 will account for 35 percent and Maemo for 10 percent.

Furthermore according to said sources Nokia plans on launching Maemo 6 mobile phones sometime in the 2nd half of this year.
