Droid 2 Being Dumped by Verizon for World Edition Droid 2

The first smartphone to launch packing Android 2.2 Froyo and Adobe Flash 10.1 out of the gate was of course the Motorola Droid 2 on the Big Red network; however word has it that Verizon is already considering discontinuing the Droid 2 device.

According to the Boy Genius over on the BGR, he’s heard that Verizon Wireless will slowly discontinue the original Droid 2 handset in favour of launching the world edition Droid 2 smartphone.

Naturally it would be good business for the Big Red to offer the Droid 2 world edition, but discontinuing the CDMA version of the device may just annoy those Verizon customers who already purchased the CDMA only Droid 2.

If the rumour turns out to be true Verizon will offer the Motorola Droid 2 World Edition complete with SIM card support for those who travel around the globe and could launch carrying the same price tag as the CDMA Droid 2 once those stocks have diminished; however at the moment this is purely rumour as nothing has been confirmed.
