RedSn0w 0.9.6 Download Problems: Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1

Yesterday we reported that the Dev Team updated its new RedSn0w software to 0.9.6b4 and that it can now jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 that was released last night.

Well we are calling out to all those that have tried the new RedSn0w and if it went smoothly or you found problems, Redmond Pie and iDB have much more information about the new RedSn0w update so please do visit these sources.

Other devices will get a tethered jailbreak and this means that you will have to connect your iPhone and launch RedSn0w every time you reboot, please be aware that if you wish to unlock your device you should not use RedSn0w because it will update your baseband, iDB do suggest you wait for PwnageTool.

Please do let us know if you have had problems with RedSn0w 0.9.6b4.

i actually had a couple problems after jailbreaking with 0.9.6b4 ipad 4.2.1 .. one was that safari would crash everytime i tired to open it.. same as well with the app store . furthurmore, the email account didnt work, when i go to add an account, it would verify great but not actually save any account. Also, if i reboot the ipad, it stays stuck on the apple logo untill i actually put it in dfu mode and restore from itunes. Ill just wait untill a better jailbreak tool is released.

I have an Itouch 4G and have had major problems with this release. I can jailbreak OK but if I try to install Winterboard my itouch freezes at the Apple logo on reboot. I have no option but to do a recovery and full restore.

It didn’t work. I have the iPod touch 3g with 4.2.1 and it first was stuck on “exploiting with limera1n” and then after I did the DFU mode again it got stuck on the “waiting for reboot” screen. After that it didn’t do anything.

in a nutshell you have to rejailbreak it. instead of clicking install cydia choose the 2nd to last option which says boot theteresd and follow the insructions then on it shoud work i give you my word

I have the same exact problem but, I found the solution for that; Window crashes when installing = have to install all updates on windows and the blank icon on Cydia you can look it up on youtube call, "Black Cydia Icon but the only ploblem is that when i reboot or install winterboard, it get stall on apple.

I have an iPhone 3G. I updated my iPhone from iOS 4.0.2 to 4.2.1. I have had problems ever since I jailbroke on the 4.2.1 firmware. Everytime I try to switch to a different task via a link (like an HTML link in an email to open up a webpage in Safari) or via the multitask switcher my springboard crashes. All homebrew apps do not seem to work %100 and most cause the Springboard to crash. Cydia, unfortunately, is included among these. Read on Cydia as to why this happens… apparently the kernel files that are supposed to patch when the jailbreak is installing are not set up yet for 4.2 but for 4.1. Hopefully this gets fixed soon!! Im tired of restarting my springboard everytime I get a text and try to answer it lol

Same problem as Tyler, my 3g crashes when following an email link, or attempting to go from ipod player to the link "Get More Episodes…" located at the bottom of podcasts. Instead of opening itunes to the podcast provider, springboard crashes.

Have you made any headway on this issue? I just jailbroke on 1/1 and am seeing the same issue with 4.2.1 on redsnow 096b6. Apparently, 097 for windows will be out soon. Is anybody who loaded with OS10 seeing an improvement in this issue?
