Turn Motorola Droid Razr into Maxx with conversion kit
Smartphones have become a lot more powerful with larger brighter displays in recent times, which in some cases has been at the expense of battery life. This issue has been a big problem for some smartphone owners who have found they need to keep charging their device, and Motorola earlier this year released the Droid RAZR MAXX to offer a solution to this. For those of you that have the standard RAZR we have news of a conversion kit to turn it into a MAXX.
When the Droid RAZR MAXX was released by Motorola it came not long after the standard version was launched, which as Android Authority is reporting, those who had already purchased the earlier version were not eligible for a return. The company would have upset a lot of customers with this move, but now we have news of a fix for owners of the Droid RAZR.
There is a third-party kit available that can convert the Droid RAZR into a Droid RAZR MAXX, with a nice powerful 3300 mAh battery. This conversion comes courtesy of the Cellphone Repair Shop, who will provide you with all the components needed to complete the aftermarket upgrade yourself.
These include the bigger battery, and a larger back plate that will boost the device out to a still respectable 8.9mm, and a frame piece with the SIM and MicroSD card door along with a couple of pieces of pre-cut tape. There are no tools provided that will help you achieve the alterations, but the Cellphone Repair Shop can sell you the relevant Torx screwdrivers and pry tool if you need them.
The alterations are possible because the two handsets are almost identical except for the extra size to store the larger battery. It has to be remembered though that while the parts are genuine Motorola, dong this work will invalidate your warranty, and the kit can be pre-ordered from the Cellphone Repair Shop for $109.95.
Currently it is showing the kit to be out of stock with more due to come in the next couple of days, and it is not known if the kit will work with the international version of the Droid RAZR. Would you like to convert your Droid RAZR?
