Sony Xperia XZ Premium release tipped alongside XZs

#

Another day, another leak, this time about new Sony Xperia smartphones. The Sony Xperia XZ arrived in October 2016 and now a Sony Xperia XZ Premium release is tipped alongside an Xperia XZs. The news comes from a source that has also produced a leaked slide about a new camera feature dubbed Motion Eye.

MWC 2017 is taking place in Barcelona and kicks off in just a few days time. Sony is holding a press event on February 27 where it’s expected that several new smartphones will be announced. It’s not yet clear whether these will include the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs. However, it’s anticipated that both will arrive this year, although are not likely to release before June.

Not much is known about the specifications of the devices at this stage but rumors indicate that Xperia XZ Premium specs will include a Snapdragon 835 processor and 4K display. It’s said the phone will be a successor to the Xperia Z5 Premium that launched in 2015. The interesting new Sony camera feature is called Motion Eye according to the leaked slide. The slide refers specifically to Xperia cameras and text describes Motion Eye as the “world’s first memory embedded camera.”

It appears that the Sony Motion Eye feature will take use of the latest Sony camera sensor that includes a dedicated memory module. News is that once this automatically detects movement it will take 4 photos in the second before you actually hit the shutter button. This doesn’t appear to be something we haven’t seen before, as it sounds somewhat similar to Apple’s Live Photos feature and also Samsung’s Motion Photo. We’re interested to hear more to clarify exactly what Sony is bringing to the table.

Even if Sony doesn’t unveil the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and XZs at MWC, it does seem likely that the Motion Eye feature could be discussed at the event. Check back with us from time to time and we’ll bring the latest as we hear it. Are you hoping to hear something about the Sony Xperia XZ Premium release soon?
