Nokia 6.1 Plus announced!

#

I’ve said this many time before, and I’ll say it again – Nokia did make the comeback it deserved. HMD Global, the parent company that took the Nokia brand, is obviously doing the right thing. They’ve released many different devices for every price range, enabling all customers to try them out. This year, they upgraded their initial offer, releasing the Nokia 2.1, 3.1, 5.1 and 6.1. And now, they’ve announced two new devices that are taking cues from the design trends of 2018. The Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus, both rumored for the past month, see the light of day. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is the focus today, so read on to see all the details about it!

Design

Starting with the design, this is the department where Nokia did most of the improvements over the regular 6.1. On the front, you will find the 5.8” Full HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio. The device boasts 81.5% screen-to-body ratio, which is a big improvement over the other Nokia devices. Furthermore, this is the first device from Nokia to embrace the notch. It’s a medium sized one, and it houses the sensors, earpiece speaker and the front camera. The bezels are thin, with the bottom chin being the largest. Rotating to the back, you will find the dual camera setup in the middle, with the fingerprint sensor right under it. The back is glass, with the body being from aluminum.

Features

Performance wise, the Nokia 6.1 Plus is getting a small bump from the regular 6.1. Starting with the chipset, the device features the recently announced Snapdragon 636 processor. It should handle any task you throw at it smoothly. Accompanying the chipset are the 4GB of RAM, which should be enough for moderate multitasking. Speaking of memory, the device comes with 64GB of internal storage. Furthermore, that can be upgraded up to 400GB with the included MicroSD slot. Rounding up the internals, the device is powered by the 3060mAh battery. It supports fast charging and should easily last you through a full day of use, depending on your usage.

Moving over to the cameras, the 6.1 Plus is also keeping up on the trends of 2018. On the back, the device is featuring a primary 16MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture and a secondary 5MP shooter with f/2.4 aperture. Pictures coming out are great, with decent dynamic range and good color saturation. On the front, you will find the single 16MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture. It should be more than enough for all of your video calls or occasional selfies.

Finishing with the software, HMD Global stays committed to their promise. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is also a part of the Android One family. So, that means stock Android and guaranteed updates for up to three years. You won’t find any third-party apps on it, aside from Nokia’s Support one. For the pure Android fans out there without the budget for a Pixel, Nokia is definitely the brand to go after.

Pricing and availability

The Nokia 6.1 Plus is available for pre-order now in India only. More markets will follow in the upcoming months. The device will be priced at ~$230.
