Are you worried about hackers launching iPhone Virus Attack Via SMS?

Under: Apple iPhone, Phone Software

The other day we posted on the possibility of an iPhone SMS attack; you can read the article (here) According to a post on CRN, Independent Security Evaluators researcher, Charlie Miller along with Ph.D. student Collin Mulliner, demonstrated how hackers can break into the iPhone via SMS at a Black Hat event.

Miller said during the demonstration…”Its lots of fun to kick friends off the network, but it’s even more fun to own their phone,” and also showed that the same thing can be done with an Android phone and Windows Mobile handsets.

Apparently memory issues in the way the iPhone handles the SMS protocol enables the hack which can launch a DOS attack to shut off the iPhone, reconfigure keys or deface text.

So there it is, now are you worried about an iPhone SMS attack?
