RIM BlackBerry To Block Porn Sites In Indonesia ASAP

Research In Motion has now stated they are to filter websites in Indonesia “as soon as possible” in response to a threat to ban BlackBerry Internet access by the government if Research In Motion fails to block pron website access by BlackBerry customers in the country.

‭According to an article over on the Economic Times, in a statement RIM has said they have been in ongoing tlaks with the government and their partners on the subject and ‬”continues to make it a top priority to implement satisfactory technical solutions as soon as possible.”

Research In Motion was given a 2-week deadline to block access or face restrictions being imposed on BlackBerry devices, the deadline was given to the BlackBerry maker by Tifatul Sembiring, the Communications and Information Technology Minister.

Gatot Dewabrata, a ministry spokeman apparently spoke to AFP saying…“If RIM still doesn’t block porn sites by then, users won’t be able to use the RIM service to browse the Internet. But they can use the company’s other services.”

The spokesman also said that the ministry will meet with BlackBerry maker Research In Motion on the 17th of January to talk more on the matter. This new disagreement over BlackBerry services foolws a long line of similar ban threats RIM has seen in the past from other governments such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia and with Indonesia having in excess of 2 million BlackBerry users obviously RIM is loking at doing somehting to avoid the ban.

  1. Yeaaaaaaaaaaah this news been a booming news on Indonesia for recent several days, for me, what the ministry had done is just wasted, he acted like he found thousand of pornographical acts through blackberry, it shows that actually he knows that he can browse a porn through blackberry, but why must be RIM who became the victim? If I were someone who likes a porn, I'd rather use the PC than a BB to search a porn ==", this decision is little bit absurd actually…
