Jolla Smartphone India release set for September 23

#

India gets more new handsets in a week than some countries see in months, and you can now add another to the list starting next week. The Jolla smartphone India release is almost here, and next Tuesday you’ll be able to pick up the Sailfish smartphone in India.

The Jolla smartphone isn’t your typical handset. It doesn’t run a forked version of Android or even Tizen. The device runs the Sailfish OS, an operating system put together by ex-Nokia employees that previously worked on MeeGo. The smartphone has been available in Finland and a few other EU countries, but the Jolla smartphone India release will definitely be the furthest the gadget has travelled.

If you think the Jolla is flagship worthy, you’ll want to think again as it has a 4.5-inch display, 1GB of RAM, and a dual-core 1.4GHz processor. The device will have 16GB of expandable storage, a 2,100mAh battery, and an 8MP/2MP camera combo. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 4G.

We first told you about the Jolla smartphone back in July when it was “coming soon” and it’s glad to see they’ve follow-up as there’s no doubt about the Jolla smartphone India release now. Jolla sent out invites for an “event” on September 23, and it will be sold exclusively through Snapdeal. Pricing has not been announced, but the handset sells for around €399 in Europe.

Are you pleased to see the Jolla smartphone India release or is it a bit too late?
