iPhone Home phone next year: Is there any point?

There are whispers of an Apple iPhone for the home possibly coming next year, but is there really a need for an iPhone in the home, especially if you already have the mobile version?

Apparently the company making the iPhone Home is OpenPeak, and there’s me thinking it would be Apple, just goes to show what I know. Anyway, OpenPeak has been working on this iPhone home version for about a year and a half.

This iPhone home is apparently designed as a home communications centre designed to be used by the entire family and the word is 3rd-party devs will be able to develop applications especially for this iPhone.

Word is the iPhone Home will become available via AT&T and Verizon and maybe a few private resellers as well. How much will it cost? Well the rumour is around the $200.00 to $300.00 mark.

So, what do you think, is there really a need for an iPhone Home unit, or is it covered with the iPhone mobile?
