2010 may see 45 to 50 million iPhone 2010 units sold

Apparently OmniVision Technologies expects to see orders for CMOS image sensor for the iPhone reach 40 to 45 million in 2010 whereas it is estimated this year it will be 20 to 21 million reports business insider.

According to a source OminVision has received orders for 5 megapixel CIS units for the next-gen iPhone that is expected to become available during the 2nd half of 2010.

They gain their information via digitimes who has a bit of a bad rep for Apple iPhone rumours so all this may not pan out.

However, if true, we could expect the iPhone 2010 to pack a 5 megapixel camera which would put the new iPhone on the same line as the Motorola Droid and the Google Nexus One, and you have to admit, shifting 40 to 45 million new iPhones doesn’t seem too far fetched especially if the iPhone goes on the Verizon network.
