Is HP Right For Laying Off Palm Employees?

Palm bit the dust when it was acquired by HP and apparently HP has now wielding the axe on Palm employees and laying of Palm employees in “double digits” as opposed to hundreds.

According to an article over on Itproportal, All Things Digital is reporting that a spokesperson for Hewlett-Packard has said…“Part of the integration strategy is consolidation of functions and operations, as appropriate. There always is turnover in organizations. Palm employees overall are enthusiastic about having the financial stability and global scale necessary to complete their vision.”

HP has announced that they will be developing a tablet using the Palm webOS platform to compete with the Apple iPad, but has also said in the past that they have no plans to enter into the smartphone market.

So basically Palm as a smartphone contender is well and truly in the mobile grave, but is it right that after acquiring Palm, HP lays off Palm employees? Looks to me like a grab the OS and ditch the workers type of thing, what are your views?
