HP TouchPad Android Team Touchdroid Disbanded

Phones Review Quickie: Well now no doubt most are aware that there was a project to deliver the Android operating system to the HP TouchPad a project run by a team called Touchdroid that recently managed to get Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread running on the HP TouchPad touch screen. However it appears that the team will be doing no more with the project.

According to an article over on Reddit, the Touchdroid team have now disbanded and the reason given for the move is that it was discovered that the team had been copying CyanogenMod team code without giving credit.

Apparently before disbanding one of the team released a “system dump with everything TouchDroid had put together so far, along with instructions explaining how to install the software on a TouchPad.”

As of now you get a basic Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread working on the HP TouchPad touch screen, as we have already seen in a video posted previously. However the guys say they are not too sure if anything else is working, but WiFi is definitely not working yet.

As it stands the Reddit guys suggest the best option for HP TouchPad owners is to hold off until such times as CyanogenMod releases a fully functional port.

So there you go, if you were hoping the Touchdroid team would be able to rapidly deliver Android to your webOS slate, it’s not going to happen as they are no more, but hang on in there and wait for the CyangenMod team to do their stuff.
