Motorola Droid RAZR HD September appearance likely

The Motorola Droid RAZR HD is a smartphone that has been attracting a lot of interest since the first murmurs of it. If speculation and leaks of the phone are correct then it will be major competition for the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and iPhone 5 but one thing that had recently concerned us was how long it was taking for the RAZR HD to be released. We now have news that the Droid RAZR HD could appear as early as September 5, news that will please an awful lot of consumers waiting to get their hands on this promising phone.

We know from comments to previous posts that many readers are waiting eagerly for the Droid RAZR HD and several weeks ago hoped a release may be imminent considering the handset had passed through the FCC. However more weeks came and went and then recently we heard that the much-awaited release may not come until October or November, news that disappointed a lot of potential customers. We thought a release this late would be very unwise considering the amount of impressive handsets that are due to be released over the coming weeks and hopefully it now seems that the RAZR HD could release earlier than expected.

An Android Community report tells how invitations (see below) for a Motorola media event on September 5 are now being sent out and that all the indications point to the unveiling of the Droid RAZR HD. The invitation for instance includes the words “Motorola. On display” which could certainly be a reference to the HD display of the RAZR HD. As well as being a Motorola event the name of Verizon also appears at the bottom of the invitation so it does seem more than likely that we’ll see a reveal of the Droid RAZR HD unless of course Motorola has been keeping something else very quietly up its sleeve.

Of course none of the specs and features are yet confirmed but from many rumors and leaks we can tell you that we expect a device with a 4.6-inch 720p HD ColorBoost display, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 4G LTE support and 2530mAh battery. It’s also likely to release on Android 4.0 ICS with a 4.1 Jelly Bean update to follow at some point in 2013. The only factor that we’re really unsure of at the moment concerns the Droid RAZR HD camera. For months it has been touted as having a 13-megapixel rear camera but in the most recent rumor we reported that it was now expected to have an 8-megapixel camera, something that might disappoint a lot of buyers. However this is still unclear and hopefully there’s not too much longer to wait until we know for sure.

Of course even if this special September 5 event does unveil the Droid RAZR HD it doesn’t necessarily mean an imminent release and it could still appear in October or November as recently rumored. However we would hope that Motorola and Verizon are set to do the decent thing and get this phone into the hands of consumers as soon as possible after the event and before the big competition from phones such as the Galaxy Note 2 and iPhone 5.

Are you waiting for the Motorola Droid RAZR HD? Would it make any difference to you if you had to wait a few more months rather than just a few more weeks for the release? Let us know with your comments.
