There are plenty of cool gadgets to look forward to before 2015 rolls around, and Samsung hopes the Samsung Gear VR is on the hot list come Christmas time. Details have been a little vague, but the Samsung Gear VR price was revealed today, and it will set you back a cool $200.

Venturebeat has learned from a company spokesmen at Fashion Week that the Samsung Gear VR price will be $200. No other juicy details were revealed, but it’s safe to assume it will arrive in time for Christmas, and it will be “bundled” alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 at retailers worldwide.

If $200 sounds high for a VR headset, you’re not alone in thinking that. If the gadget could do VR on its own, the Samsung Gear VR price would be easily justified. That’s not the case though as you’re required to have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to use the high-tech setup. It’s understandable considering the Rift has made use of the Note 3 display, but disappointing as you’re looking at over $500 bucks for the smartphone and headset.

As for the Samsung Gear VR release date, all we know is that the Gear VR Innovator Edition is expected to arrive this fall, and the Oculus mobile .SDK will be ready to go before November rolls around. The Gear VR will no doubt be an amazing gadget, but it will be interesting to see how many people are willing to shell out the cash to get it.
