Philips W832 Xenium inexpensive dual-core dual-SIM phone

We seem to see new smartphones being announced on a daily basis now and if you are a fan of the Android platform there is a whole host of hardware available to choose from. This varies greatly in price and features, and today we have news of the inexpensive Philips W832 Xenium that is still a dual core as well as dual SIM mobile phone.

The guy’s over at GSM Arena are reporting that the company announced the new smartphone that will come running the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on a 1GHz dual core MTK processor. The standout feature of the new smartphone though is the dual SIM feature that allows owners to have access to GSM and WCDMA networks simultatnleously, and this is on a handset that is powered by a 2,400 mAh battery.

Other features of the handset include a 4.5-inch qHD capacitive IPS touchscreen display at 540 x 960 reslotution. The handset features a form factor of only131mm x 67.5mm x 11mm thick, which may not be the thinnest smartphone available, but when you consider the dual SIM capablity is pretty good.

On the back is an eight megapixel camera with autofocus that is capable of MPEG4, H.263, H.264 video formats at 24 or 30fps. For storing all that content is only 4GB of on board storage with only 2048MB available to the user, but luckily this is expandable by a further 32GB thanks to the microSD card port.

According to the company that impressive battery pack can provide owners up to eleven hours of continues talk time, which is a seriously long chat, or up to 683 hours of standby time when using dual mode. If browsing the web is your thing the handset will provide you nine hours from a single charge. There is also the neat feature of a button that is used for the power saving mode that turns off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS while dimming the screen with a quick tap of the button.

There is no mention if the devcie will ever be updated to the Android Jelly Bean firmware, but hopefully it will see it eventually, and Philips failed to provide any information reagrding the pricing or a release date for the W832 Xenium, but it should be only around the mid-range mark.

Dual SIM smartphones are becoming a big thing recently that was originally mainly for emerging markets, but compnaies such as HTC and Samsung now provide smartphones offering the feature.

Do you like the idea of a dual SIM handset?
