Earlier today we gave details of the Gionee M5 Plus that had just launched at an official event in China. The Gionee M5 Enjoy has also been announced and it has a cheaper price than the M5 Plus. It also has a smaller display although it’s still sizeable at 5.5-inches.

Let’s get to grips with the cost of the device first, and the Gionee M5 Enjoy price is Rs. CNY 1,999. That’s around $308, £207, €282 or Rs. 20,435, although it’s worth remembering that pricing can vary according to market. Availability outside China hasn’t been detailed yet but we’d be surprised if it didn’t launch elsewhere before too much longer. In China the phone can be ordered from the Gionee Shop online and it will be available from December 25.

Specs of the M5 Enjoy include a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6735 64-bit quad-core processor with Mali-T720 graphics, and a 5.5-inch IPS display with HD resolution (1280 x 720). It has 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 128GB), and a nicely sized 5000 mAh battery. The phone is equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, and 1080p video capture, and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.

Connectivity is well covered with 4G LTE, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and USB OTG. The M5 Enjoy measures 155mm x 76mm x 9mm and it weighs 200g. The dual SIM handset is in a Golden color with an attractive metal build, and it also features a fingerprint sensor. It runs the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with Gionee’s Amigo OS 3.1.

It’s a crowded smartphone market right now and it remains to be seen if the more mid-range M5 Enjoy will make an impact. Although decent enough, the price seems on the steep side for a phone with these specs, although the battery size is a bonus.
