Apple files suit against HTC for iPhone related patent infringements

By now you are probably aware that iPhone giant Apple has filed a lawsuit against HTC for allegedly infringing on 20 iPhone related patents, and the infringements apparently relate to the user interface, underlying architecture, and hardware of the iPhone.

Apparently, according to an article over on techtree; Apple Guru, Steve Jobs has said…”We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

Without going into all the specific details of each patent issue as I’m sure you’d be fairly bored with reading them, the article does say that it looks like Apple is specifically targeting the Android operating system on mobile handsets and thus shooting a broadside across Google.

Google on the other hand has apparently issued a statement about the Apple lawsuit, which they say… “We are not a party to this lawsuit. However, we stand behind our Android operating system and the partners who have helped us to develop it.”

So will this Apple vs. HTC/Android/Google law battle wrangle on for years or will they all sit round a table to bash out an agreement? I guess only time will tell.
