iPhone 5 Release Shifts to Sept End As AT&T Halt Vacations

More rumour on the expected release date of the much talked about iPhone 5 today. We previously reported a rumour that the next generation iPhone could possibly release in the second week of September, but the latest rumour reckons it is now looking like it will be sometime in the last two weeks of Sept.

So here’s how this latest piece of iPhone 5 release speculation came about, apparently someone claiming to be an AT&T employee contacted the guys over at Gizmodo and told them that AT&T is holding a vacations blackout event for the last 2-weeks of September.

Here’s what the supposed AT&T employee communicated, “I’m an att employee and my boss just announced that vacation requests for the end of september will be denied due to an “event blackout”. Historically the only time they’ve done this was for an iphone release. So we’re looking at the last two weeks of september.”

As far as I can remember we did see a similar vacation blackout just before previous new iOS smartphones hit the mobile space so it does seem to be a traditional move when it comes to launching new Apple gear.

Having said that of course, as always this is purely a rumour as it hasn’t been confirmed that the source is actually an AT&T employee, or that AT&T has indeed instructed their staff they will not be able to take a vacation during said period.

If true however I would have though that rival US carrier Verizon would also be informing employees that there is a vacation blackout for the same period, as I would have thought the carrier would get the iPhone 5 at the same time as AT&T, although as far as I am aware there’s been no news of the Big Red issuing such an order, although I could be wrong.

The popular speculation is that Apple will finally deliver the iPhone 5 sometime in the month of September and it does look like that will be the favoured month when the iOS faithful will gain their newest tech toy, unless of course all the rumours are wrong.

So for now at least, you’ll have to file this one along with the rest under the rumours tab until such times as Apple deem fit to unleash some iPhone 5 release date to the mobile space.
