Nokia may announce new QWERTY Asha handset

#

Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia has been busy releasing more handsets for its Windows Phone 8 running range in the last few weeks, but it seems that in a couple of days time the company could be about to announce a new QWERTY Asha handset.

The company’s feature phone range led by the Asha series has recently taken a knock sales wise as we reported yesterday, and now Nokia has teased that it will be announcing something new this coming Wednesday, April 24th at 7am GMT.

There is also an image that can be seen on this page that possibly means the device will have a physical QWERTY keyboard, but it is not currently known if the device is another Lumia handset or a new Asha device.

Previously there had been some leaks of a new range of Asha handsets that include three different devices, and this official image makes you wonder if the company has begun to use the Lumia design for its Asha range of feature phones.

The company has been busy launching Asha handsets recently with touchscreen displays so maybe Nokia is looking to cater for those that prefer a physical keyboard on their mobile phone. Nokia is seeing increasing pressure from a variety of other companies in the emerging markets that it used to dominate now, and any new device will have to be priced at the right level to appeal to the masses.

Would you like a Nokia Asha handset with a QWERTY keyboard?
