Samsung Gear S2 specs and availability are officially announced
We have spent a great deal of time talking about Sammy’s new smartwatch, and now it’s official. The Samsung Gear S2 specs have been officially announced, and it’s bound for all four major carriers in the states.
Samsung decided to get the jump on the competition at IFA this week by bringing the Samsung Gear S2 into the spotlight first. After months of speculation and debate, we finally know the Samsung Gear S2 specs and where you’ll be able to pick one up if you live in the U.S. That said, we still have no idea of when you’ll be able to pick one up or the Samsung Gear S2 price.
The Samsung Gear S2 will be available in two different models, each with a Wi-Fi and 3G variant. The Samsung Gear S2 Classic and the regular Samsung Gear S2 have the same innards, but the former offers up a traditional look while the latter screams smartwatch. As for those specs, it’s nothing different from any of the devices on the Android Wear side of things so you’re getting a 1GHz dual-core chip, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The display measures 1.2” and is of the Super AMOLED variety with a resolution of 360 x 360.
The futuristic looking Samsung Gear S2 is a bit heavier than the classic model at 47grams compared to 42grams. Connectivity options will include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and NFC. The 3G edition weighs 51grams and runs off a larger 300mAh battery compared to the 250mAh battery found in the Wi-Fi model. Again, there’s nothing special under the hood as the Gear S2 is all about the rotating bezel, design, and Tizen.
Unfortunately, we don’t know the Samsung Gear S2 price although it will be headed to T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint in the near future. Sammy didn’t give us a release windows aside from “fall” but we’ll keep our ear to the ground for any information regarding the Samsung Gear S2 price or release date.
