Galaxy Mega 5.8 specs confirmed, phablet on a budget

Back in 2011 with the original Galaxy Note Samsung arguably started a new craze for larger screen smartphones that went on to be called phablet devices, which since then has seen a new model and a variety of competitors also getting in on the action. Now we have news that the specs for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 have allegedly been confirmed that seems to offer a Samsung phablet device on more of a budget.

We first heard of the device earlier this month and followed news that Samsung could be planning a larger 6.3-inch smartphone after a Bluetooth gaming device appeared on a Samsung website hinted at such a device in the future.

Now the guys over at SamMobile have been sent what is being claimed to be the confirmed specifications for the Samsung Galaxy Mega smartphone. The handset has the GT-I9152 codename and will feature a 5.8-inch qHD TFT display at 960 x 540 resolution, which will be powered by a dual core processor running at 1.4GHz.

This is set to be paired with 1.5GB of RAM running the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean software that will be updated to 4.2.2 along with Samsungs Nature UX. Camera wise there is claimed to be an 8-megapxel rear shooter with a 2-megapixel unit on the front.

Dual SIM support is also being offered along with Wi-Fi 80211 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and supplying the juice is a 2,600 mAh unit packed into a form factor measuring 164mm x 83.8mm x 9.7mm.

There is currently no timescale given for the handsets release or its pricing, but previously there was talk of summer availability.
