Sony QX100, QX10 lens-style cameras price and release news

#

Sony is making some major announcements at IFA Berlin today and we’ve already detailed the new Sony Xperia Z1 aka Honami, a camera-centric smartphone. We also said that the Xperia Z1 would be compatible with new Sony QX100 and QX10 lens-style cameras that will transform smartphones, and we have further details on these.

If you want to check out the newly confirmed specs for the Sony Xperia Z1 smartphone then please head to our previous post here. Some weeks ago we gave some initial information on the DSC-QX100 and DSC-QX10 camera lenses that will be able to attach to some smartphones.

We also showed a concept design of a Sony Xperia phone featuring a detachable lens as an illustration of what might be offered. Now Sony has officially announced these new lens cameras and they will be able to turn the usual smartphone camera results into something rather more impressive.

We’re already drooling over the Sony Cyber-shot QX100 and QX10, which will be compatible with Android (3.1 or later) and iOS smartphones, connecting over Wi-Fi. First we’ll discuss the QX10, a high-zoom model with 10x optic.

This is the entry-level model with a price of $249, and it will come in black or white color options. It has an 18.2-megapixel Exmor RCMOS sensor. The QX10 has limited manual controls and mid-range optics, so if you want something more advanced you’ll need to step up to the QX100.

The QX100 has a 1-inch 20.2-megapixel sensor and 3.6x f/1.8-4.9 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens and will be priced at $499. This lens camera will have advanced modes but is only available in black.

Both will be available later this month and a range of accessories will also be available, such as soft carry cases. Amazon has been quick off the mark and has already posted details of the Sony QX100 and QX10 lens cameras for pre-order.

The QX10 in white can be found here, or in black can be found here. Meanwhile the QX100 can be found here, all at very slightly lower prices than above. A release date is also given of September 27 for both lens cameras, though bear in mind that these dates can sometimes vary.

However, it does seem as though Amazon has had exceptionally high demand already as they anticipate they will not be able to fulfill all of their orders with the initial allocation.

Are you hoping to get your hands on one of these new lens cameras for smartphones from Sony? Will you opt for the Sony QX100 or the QX10? Let us know with your comments.
